Outdoor Mountain Duffel Bag for Hiking & Travel

We needed large bags to pack bedding for a trip. Bought 2. For the price I didn’t expect much but they actually turned out to be perfect. This is the greatest bag for those wanting a top zip (or not) as far as storage. I bought the large size suitable for airline checking. However, I ended up with 3 tears on the outside pocket which had 2 pairs of shoes and some small items. I loved the bag and decided I would try to patch it. The patches would not stick-not iron on or Gorilla glue! It’s really a shame it’s not made with a more durable fabric. I would have been happy to pay more b/c top zips are hard to find. Back to searching before next trip!Good size light gage materialSo I've been in the market for a medium sized duffle for car camping for some time. I've been using the round single zipper type duffle bag from REI for the past year. While that bag is very rugged the organization inside the bag is very poor. The zipper doesn't open fully to see the content inside and it's difficult to separate gear.I went into REI to check out some bags they have there. My favorite was the REI 65L Tech Beast duffle (it's the closest in size to this medium duffle). While it was really awesome at $90 it was a little expensive for a duffle that would be used for car camping and weekend trips. Not to mention, the 65L didn't have a separate compartment for shoes. I would have to get the 100L bag for that, which was more expensive and way to big for my needs.I picked this up on sale and was expecting it to be cheap and flimsy. I was defiantly surprised when opened it up and saw that the bag is made out of a thicker canvas type material. There is a lot of double stitching, including the strap area. The organization of the bag is pretty good, and it has a cavernous opening to be able to see all the contents of the main compartment which helps me to keep my gear organized and not mess stuff up when I grab a change of clothes out of it. Granted this bag is not the same quality, and lacks a few features of say the REI tech duffle, but for the price I'll try this guy out for the year and buy a nicer bag when I get some extra cash.I'd say this size would be best for trips under a week long. 4-5 days is my typical camping trip length and I've been able to fit all my clothes, extra jacket, toiletries, camping towel, and a pair of hiking boots in this without issue.Lots to like about this bag. I have it in several sizes, the Large is closer to the size of a big gym bag, the X-Large is as big as many hockey bags. It has side pockets for shoes or boots or things you want to separate from the main compartment. It has a small outside pocket that can hold maps or paperwork and when unzipped on the XL it fits a coaching clipboard rather well. It has a collapsible carrying bag that can be used on its own. It has carrying straps that go completely around to the other side, good zippers and quality stitching. It is fairly durable and holds up to normal wear and tear.The only downside is that it is not indestructible. Airlines and sharp skates are able to cut the nylon fabric. I have been really satisfied with the performance for what it is. That having been said, I am still looking for the holy grail of bags to protect my pack from the airlines when traveling. I thought I had it in the XL. After seeing the abuse that this bag has taken at their hands, I can only imagine how many straps and buckles I would have to replace if I had not had it as a first layer of protection for my pack. If I have to buy one of these every couple of years to protect my pack, I would still consider it a good investment. In the meantime, let me know if you find something a bit sturdier.Solid well made bag that seems like it will be pretty durable. The zippers are nice and the stitching seems strong. The shoe pockets on each end could be a little bigger - it's a little tricky to zip them shut on my size 11 shoes. Another nice feature is the included zippered case that will store this duffel bag when empty.I have owned this bag for 3 years and have walked on and off ferries more than 100 times carrying this bag. It has held up very well..No loose stitching. I have stuffed it completely full and carried a week's worth of clothing..If you plan on holding really heavy items get a better strap with padding..Well worth the money..Great bag!!Excelente mochila la talla M es la q mas recomiendo le cabe mucho en el compartimento de enmedio y además tiene una bolsa en cada lado ya sea para zapatos una y la otra para ropa sucia. En medio metí 4 playeras, 1 sudadera, 1 pans, 2 shorts, 1 toalla grande, 1 nececer pequeño, 1 Par de guantes de box,1 par de tenis, 1 Par de sandalias, cuatro v das y dos telas adhesivas, 1 sudadera térmica (para sudar) y todavía le cabía un poco mas. También compre la mochila en talla L y si es muy grande calculo q le caben unos 30 kilos de ropa.First bag lasted 2 weeks before it ripped. Returned it and got a new one. .. now 3 months later, second one is ripped. Unable to return. Not worth it if you are using it almost every day.Los materiales son de excelente calidad, la uso cada que viajo a ver a mi familia, y para cualquier viaje corto le he cargado una cantidad mas que considerable de peso y ha resistido sin ningun problema, la recomiendo para uso rudo, aun cargando mucho resiste, no es muy comoda de cargar con peso, pero si facil de transportar.
