I've been on the hunt for the perfect lightweight, yet sturdy outdoor table for several years. I run a program for volunteers who mostly work outside and they utilize tables in parks when setting up education stations or conducting visitor education or surveys. The supplies for these tasks are mostly stored in service rooms at the parks which are not always close to where they need to set up. So lugging a large, heavy folding table isn't feasible, but we need tables that can be transported easily yet stand up to the elements and the rigors of constant assembly and dismantling by lots of different people. My three main requirements are: (1) portability (2) durability and (3) ease of set up/take down.1. Portability: this table rates slightly lower than others I've used for portability mainly because of it's overall weight and the ease of setting it up. Once stowed in it's bag, the weight isn't as big an issue, but it would definitely be better if it could be transported via cart if you have to carry it further than 100 yards. It also might be problematic to sling over your shoulder if you're short as the overall length in the bag is somewhere around 4 feet. If you have to walk over rocky ground or anywhere with steps it would be difficult to carry on your shoulder. It is also pretty difficult for one person to set up alone as the clips that lock the legs into place have to be pushed simultaneously while trying to fold the lets down and it's not an easy task. In addition, the set up and take down is less than intuitive and there are no included instructions with the carry bag as other tables by KingCamp have built in. Ironically, the tables they include attached instructions with are extremely intuitive and this table is not. This might not be a problem for anyone once they have figured out the little nuances that assist with proper set up/take down, but in our case there are many different people utilizing the table and they're setting up the tables on their own in the field. The more intuitive or easy they are to set up, the better experience they'll have.2. This table is a solid 9 for durability -- my main reason for not giving it a 10/10 has to do with the fact that some key components are plastic. The clips that lock the legs into place are plastic and the pins that lock the roll up table onto the leg frame are plastic as well. The 9 rating comes from the fact that out of all the metal portable tables I've tried with roll up/fold up segmented tops, this one definitely wins out by creating a built in groove within the leg frame for the segmented top to sit inside of. By doing that, you get a lot more stability from the top itself and rely less on the elastic bungee material that keeps the segments together. Less stress on the bungee portion is bound to add more life to the top as it is set up and dismantled over and over again.3. Ease of set up/take down: I've already addressed some of the challenges with setting up/taking down this table in "Portability", but I also want to say this is the main place this table FAILS on several counts, in my opinion. First, KingCamp made the choice to stow this table in a drawstring bag, similar to what you might find in a camp chair. This is a HUGE mistake. The two components (leg frame and segmented top) are drastically different in stowed height. And the bag is segmented with a divider inside. So while it's not that difficult to extract the legs from the bag, getting a hold on the top segments to pull them out is next to impossible. Even if you give up on pulling the top out and go to turn the bag upside down to dump it out, the top gets caught on every part of the bag that it could catch on and it winds up being super frustrating to get the dang thing out. KingCamp has included ONE velcro strap to wrap around the table top pieces, but it does not keep them together well and it winds up falling off as you either put the top in the bag or try to take it out. On top of that, there is no clear discernible way to fold or roll the top up so that the pins that attach it to the frame are not exposed, thereby leaving more opportunity to catch it on the bag when trying to stow the top. What is hard for me to figure out is why KingCamp chose to include this method of storage instead of the wonderful zipper style bags with carry handles they use for their bamboo camp tables. Simply changing the stow bag to a zipper style bag would eliminate most of the hassle that comes with this table. Including instructions and a better wrap strap for the table top would make this a much more pleasant assembly experience. One last beef I have is that the leg length is not adjustable as in their other tables. With an outdoor table, you are often hard pressed to find a perfectly level place to set it up. Without the option to adjust the leg length individually, this creates a problem unless you have either concrete or a more finished grass or dirt location.Unfortunately, I will most likely have to return this one because the hassle factor is overwhelming compared to the other great features. I hope KingCamp reads their reviews, because this table is a diamond in the rough that could be vastly improved with some small adjustments by them.
